Sad weekend

Just wanted to alert all our friends that we lost three of the German-Russian ladies that consented to being interviewed for the Tri-County Tourism Alliance projects.

Maggie Herr from Maggie’s Cafe

Ellen Tuttle who was interviewed at 100 years of age and made it to 105

Ida Meidinger

It was only a stroke of luck that I asked Sandy and Ida to identify the photos that we collected from Ida when we did the interview for Women Behind the Plow.

Beginning in January I will be putting a small book together about country schools. It will fill in the gap between Ewiger Saatz and Women Behind the Plow.

It makes it a little more important that we work on these projects as soon as we can. If you have memories and photos of country schools in the tri-county area, please share them with us by emailing high resolution jpegs and Word documents to

Our condolences go out to the families of Ellen, Ida and Maggie, knowing that we can still hear their story though Ewiger Saatz.

We can never forget what our ancestors went through to get us to where we are today., the struggles, and trials they had, now we have to keep those stories alive. Thanks for your hard work in putting this together..
