Thank you

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. It has been my pleasure over the past 3 or 4 years to meet so many new friends and relatives as we collect the history and photos of the Germans from Russia. Thank you to all who received me so kindly to their homes. Thank you for trusting us with your photographs. We are working hard to get the next project Women Behind the Plow organized for its debut Oct. 2015 at Wishek’s Sauerkraut Days.

So a couple things – books. We are selling books as steady as ever and are down to less than 400 copies of Ewiger Saatz. It has been such a wonderful and rewarding start to what we hope will bring increased interest in German Russian Country and preserve the wonderful memories of our past.

Next, we are still seeking photos of your mothers, grandmothers, greatgrandmothers, aunts or cousins to use for our display. Old black and whites scanned at a high resolution and whatever information you can remember or share with us about those photos. Email dasguteessen@hotmail.com for more information about how to scan or mail your photos to us.

Are we doing a book… well, we are thinking about that… what do you think? If there is enough interest, we will sure plan on doing a companion book to Ewiger Saatz.

Lastly, I remember going to Uncle Art and Aunt Gertie’s house for many a Thanksgiving. I don’t remember anything about the food – but I remember family. That’s what this is all about – well, and pumpkin pie… so if you missed it. Here is a video on how to make Grandma Meidinger’s pumpkin pie… it’s so good.
