A little poem for you

My Aunt Rachel sent me a recipe and this little German saying in the mail this week. I was delighted to receive her note. However, not speaking much German I tried to translate it to English. So I’m asking anyone out there to add to this post by translating this poem that my Grandmother Emma (Albert C.) Meidinger, Rachel’s mother-in-law said often.

From Rachel and Ellon Meidinger

A German saying about weekdays from Ellon’s Mother Emma (Albert) Meidinger who shared this with her family many times.

Der Montag ist der Anfang
Dienstag schaff Ich was Ich kann,
Mittwoch ist der Wochenmarkt,
Donnerstag schaff Ich auch net gern,
Freitag lass Ich Freitag sein
Samstag bringt den Sonntagrein.

This is what we think it says…

Monday is the beginning
Tuesday I do what I can
Wednesday is the weekly market
Thursday I also like cleaning net(?)
Friday I let Friday be
Saturday brings in Sunday.
